It's nothing like 'The' fucking 'Core'. It's not got a spec of Hollywood on it and that's the main factor of me appreciating and sort of liking it. In a nutshell, it suffered, for me, in the same way 28 Days Later... did with a promising story, dialogue, situations and all on the brink of believability but eventually goes tits up and starts throwing needless plot points in a la 28DL...
What really annoyed me but maybe I'm not getting his ideas, is that for a lot of the story to move forward (usually ending up in perpetually worse situations), it required human stupidity, which Boyle seems to be a big fan of.
spoiler: when they're all deciding on whether or not to change course to pick up the other 'bomb' so's they have a 2nd chance, I actually cringed at the decision making process. Why, oh why oh why would 7 professional people who have the simple job of saving the earth even consider risking the most important mission man has ever set?
