I had this same problem with my original copy of Deus Ex. Mine came with a sound card and during installation it would search for that card. When I upgraded systems it would no longer install. I probably could have gotten around this with clever editting, but it was available in the $10 bin at the store at the time as well.
I know Mech Warrior 2 has very dated graphics at this point, but running around and stomping on tanks gives me a similar sense of satisfaction that slapping imps to death in Dungeon Keeper 1 does.
It would be nice if there was another installment of the Mech Warrior series with up to date graphis/physics. I would probably pick it up and force a few friends to as well if they include jump jet bombing.
