(Admins & Mods Only) Aliens: Colonial Marines shipping Spring 2012 and will be at E3 + Teaser Trailer

From GBX Forums.

SEGA AND GEARBOX’S ALIENS: COLONIAL MARINES TO DEPLOY SPRING 2012

Catch a First Look at E3 2011 of the Game That Pits You and Your Friends Against the Deadliest Killers in the Galaxy

“It'll be dark soon, and they mostly come at night... mostly.” LONDON & SAN FRANCISCO (June 1st, 2011) –SEGA® Europe Ltd. and SEGA® of America, Inc. today announced that the highly-anticipated first-person shooter, Aliens: Colonial Marines™, will be launching in spring 2012 on PC, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft. In partnership with Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products and developed by critically acclaimed studio Gearbox Software, Aliens: Colonial Marines will bring new levels of bone-chilling suspense and adrenaline-filled action to the renowned franchise. The game pits players against the universe’s ultimate alien killing machines, the Xenomorphs, in claustrophobic environments guaranteed to produce blood curdling thrills that the movie is renowned for. A first look of the game is presented in the South Hall at SEGA’s booth #2023, at this week’s E3 in Los Angeles.

“To Gearbox Software and its peers throughout the industry, ALIENS is one of the most influential science fiction properties of all time,” said Randy Pitchford, President of Gearbox Software. “Aliens: Colonial Marines, designed as an interactive successor to the landmark films from Twentieth Century Fox, is a dream project about which our studio is deeply committed and passionate.”

“Aliens: Colonial Marines will be THE definitive ALIENS gaming experience,” said Gary Knight, Senior Vice President of Marketing at SEGA Europe and SEGA of America. “Gearbox Software are doing a brilliant job translating the thrill and horror that ALIENS stands for into an action-packed shooter experience with co-operative gameplay at its core.”

Gary Rosenfeld, Senior Vice President of New Media for Fox Consumer Products added, “It’s no easy task to take on one of the most influential films of all-time, but SEGA and Gearbox are not going to disappoint. This game will be a must-have for fans of the ALIENS franchise and gamers around the globe.”

Aliens: Colonial Marines begins with an ostensibly abandoned ship, the U.S.S. Sulaco, recovered in orbit around LV-426. Players lead a group of highly trained United States Colonial Marines as they board the deserted craft to uncover the fate of the crew. They will have to fight to survive unspeakable horrors and their own anxieties as they chase down the truth behind a galaxy-spanning deception that places humanity at the mercy of the most murderous and deadly species in the universe. Aliens: Colonial Marines features authentic environments, such as the surface of LV-426 and Hadley’s Hope, weapons inspired by the film series and is designed to provide an exhilarating and engaging new chapter in the Aliens universe.

Aliens: Colonial Marines will be available spring 2012 on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. The game is also on display in the South Hall at SEGA’s booth #2032, at this week’s Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles.

Yep, the password is "father". It's essentially the same trailer, but shows a tiny bit of in-game gameplay snippets at the end.

Been thinking the same.

Also if they found Bishops legs on the Sulaco, why are they all up tight about "going in" if they've already gone....in.

I thought the Sulaco was the first level.

Thinking about it again, maybe some company overseer will have been monitoring all the "Aliens" events and was perhaps on the Sulaco the whole time tucked away, and maybe used the Sulaco to go back or remotely changed its course to go back to continue the/a mission, in regards to why its back at LV-426 anyway.

Perhaps a rival company/military too.

The graphics look perfect. Kinda resemble AvP 3 but that's okay with me. I liked the graphics in AvP 3.

I wonder if we will see the body of Hudson or at least his remains.

right now, im just crossing my fingers for a crouch button and that I shouldnt be able to block an alien's melee by putting my arm in front of it.

OK, damnit, I'm officially excited. I'm not sure about the story; it might make more sense once we see it all... But the vibe from this game looks really awesome. I'm liking that it might have an upgrade system too (which sort of reminds me a bit of Borderlands).

The aliens look like the same model from AvP3 but with some very slight variations.

BTW- To get that extra trailer with ingame footage at the end, you needed to actively under your own perogative take an IP address thats displayed at one point in the original teaser video, turn it into a web address with http:// which redirects you to the larger teaser, then i suppose its easy enough to deduce "FATHER" as the hostname, as its the hostname in the original too.

Nice touch, i like it alot. Hope there's more.

and of course, it doesn`t work for me. I found a d/lable mp4. Its ok so far. Time will tell, as always.

"Drop-in / Drop-out co-operative gameplay
The masters of co-op bring their expertise to the Aliens universe. Xenos getting too tough? Call up your buddies so they can drop in with extra firepower. The whole campaign can be played with a squad of up to four players, dropping in and out as necessary through self-contained missions within an over-arching narrative."

This alone worth the price of admission. If the game sees an actual release that is.

Not sure how much has changed since earlier previews, but I got the impression it definitely isn't as fast-paced as the Left 4 Dead series. I recall they mentioned siege situations where you had to lock down areas (sealing doors, setting up sentries etc) and fend off incoming waves of attackers (ala the Operations Room standoff in Aliens).

Good news, yeah im hoping for a bit of tension build up, slower paced set of objectives or "hold out" scenarios, where you may need to investigate a malfunctioning sentry gun or "motion detector pod" that is giving off signals. It may be faulty and need fixed or it may actually be picking up movement and a seige then erupts in that area.

Tension and an element of unknown, these are such simple things not explored in games. Its always gogogo, theretherethere, nownownow, shootshootshoot.

Play "Atmosphere Processor" from the Aliens OST and the feeling you get from that peice is the sort of tension and pace of play im hoping for, then if a seige is errupting, another element id like is you might be the guy at the back, in the back of the action, but end up getting "Burked" and a lone alien manages to flank you.

This point is less of a fanboy dream and an actual point id like to put over too on something ive noticed not being utilised by actual developers and more mod teams here and there in various games. Id also like to see voice comms to make the player sound like they are actually that distance from you and in that environment, IE large hall is echoy and small room is dull, to maybe reverberating sound like being in a pipe.

YouTube - ‪IM - PRESENTATION GDC 2008 [720p]‬‏

12:45 for the example, but watch it all and feel cheated if A:CM doesnt have all these features.(omg 2008)

If its been modded by players into that game "Interstellar Marines" circa 2008, then games need to really catch up with this sort of thing ,its a huge bonus to immersion. -edit- just realised that its the actual dev team that did that as it isnt out yet. But comment stands.

The sound for Bad Company 2 made that game so much better, like you were actually in that environment.

Jesus, is this still not out?!

I remember following the news for this one when I still had a machine capable of playing it. About 3-4 years ago.

Some of you oldies might remember how long it took them to release that Alien: Resurrection game for the PS, and how everyone was too busy saving for the PS2 to buy it.

Yeah its sad that this was going to come out in 2009 but because of Sega wanting AVP out before ACM, Borderlands becoming a top priority for Gearbox to get out the door and lastly finishing Duke Nukem Forever meant this has been put on the sidelines up until now.

After the lackluster Duke Nukem demo I'm a bit irked they pushed A:CM aside to work on Duke. Maybe it will be great and I'm certainly biased, but I feel like A:CM is no where near as far along as I thought it was.

I've been out of the whole games loop for years now, so things might have changed, but isn't it possible that it's spent so long in development that by the time it eventually comes out it will already look like yesterday's news?

You mean in terms of graphics? No because the newer wave of next-gen console hardware being still far off (as in anytime after 2012 baring nintendo's slightly more powerfull console incoming) means that it'll look as good as any top tier game released these days.

Also because PC games are mostly multi-format titles mean that many games won't push hardware as they use too considering most game devs have to make less hardware intensive games for aging 5+year old console hardware.

Also its still using Unreal engine 3 by the look of things and with all the improvements that engine has gone through its a case of game devs getting more out of aging hardware by just improving the engine, look at the difference between Gears of war and Gears of war 3, doesn't look mega different but you can tell a lot has been bolted on to the engine since it was made availible for licensing more than 5 years ago.

Also ACM was announced at the end of 2006 right? About 5 years worth of roughly solid development is the norm for game development these days.

Graphics yes, but also the content. I mean, might it just seem like a generic FPS by the time it comes out? I remember first playing Red Faction a decade ago and being wowed by being able to destroy the environment, but it looks old hat now.

In terms of content its hard to say since very little has been shown since the GI preview in early 2008 and even less when it comes to gameplay footage, judging by what is known so far it just seems that Gearbox is trying to recreate the same tension and atmosphere of Aliens but made into a FPS, it seems to be like L4D but less arcadey but we'll know more come tommorrow when E3 kicks off. I don't think its trying to bring anything new to the table of newer titles but then again if its great and a massive improvement over AVP in terms how the license is handled i don't think that it will matter.

"After the lackluster Duke Nukem demo I'm a bit irked they pushed A:CM aside to work on Duke."

I too can`t believe it. All the verbal B/S from Pritchford saying yadda bladda etc bout A CMs. And then we see it backbenched for Duke. It figures.

Something you should know about the Duke Nukem Demo.

Impressions: Duke Nukem Forever demo | Plughead

What if I told you that it was just the brief pre-alpha taster demo that Gearbox allowed the public to play at PAX for the game’s re-reveal, that me and Dave had played last October, that was fully complete and ready to go last year but for some inexplicable reason Gearbox/2K held it off until the week before Duke Nukem Forever itself made it irrelevant and badly out-of-date?
The Demo could be the unfinished version of the game and the full version will be completely different.
