i finished the gospel of the FSM and i think that you should all be touched by his noodly appendage
i'm also close to the end of any human heart which is a fascinating confessional of an intriguing life. the diary format actually makes it seem as though it's skimming a surface i want to penetrate with gusto, even though it's almost 500 pages long. perhaps that's the point; a human life is massive and full of a vast gamut of things. picked up the novelisation of the abyss and i think that's the next thing i'll read |

but i do recommend it. the bit on the mountain is hilarious in the film too, it's when he realises what the one thing he cannot smell is isn't it? and he tries his hardest to smell it. nekkid. but yeah, good film, check it out. i'm done with any human heart which is excellent, and i'd love a beefier account of logan's life but that's the point. also finished the story of how spiderman initially encountered venom; good comic, dealing with moral issues in a psuedo realistic way and good, non-ridiculous character building and conflicts. | |

Just put down Fall on Your Knees, by Ann-Marie Macdonald. It's a family saga/historical novel that tracks three generations of the Piper family in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia from the late 19th century through the early sixties. It's a great book but also bolsters my thesis that modern Canadian literature as a whole is pretty fucked up. Macdonald manage to intertwine themes of family, religion, sex and race without the narrative feeling crowded (granted, she has 566 pages to fit everything into nicely).
I plan to start On the Road next, even though I purchased it back in November/December. It's the "original scroll" transcription, meaning there are no chapter or even paragraph breaks, just the single, unbroken narrative that Kerouc hacked out on a scroll all those years ago.

Just finished reading Carrion Comfort by Dan Simmons. Great fucking book, like Stephen King said on the cover, "one of the three greatest horror novels of the twentieth century. Simple as that."
