I know this is also for the PS3 but I'm the first to post about it so nyeh!
/childishness Really, just get this game. Rent it if you must but so far so excellent. Nothing really innovative, save for the virtual lack of HUD, but the total package is just... wow. Sound, especially. So far there have been two incredibly What the Flying Fuck moments but medical areas tend to be full of them (see BioShock: Medical Pavilion). Again, I'm only just beginning Chapter 3 but it takes many of the gameplay elements of RE4 and just pushed them further. Not to mention it really pushes you for accuracy. Christ, I'm giddy. I shouldn't be this excited, but I feel that this game is truly an investment. |

I've been going back and forth on this game, trying to decide whether or not I want to get it. I'm home for a couple days so maybe I'll go rent it know that it sounds like you're having such a good time with it.

Finished Chapter 4 late last night. The mission objectives are kind of repetitive, but every time I complete one I actually feel like I'm putting this ship back together. That's good storytelling.

Holy shit, apparently Warren Ellis wrote some or most of the game's story. Excellent.

its a good game, im in the middle of the 3rd chapter. but so far it isn't as scary as i thought it would be. i think it's mostly because they made u too capable, unlike most survival horror which gimps u with the controls. I'm no complaining, it doesn't make the game any less fun.

I'm truly happy most recent survival horror games give you decent controls. I've never felt that flaws in gameplay should be written off as horror elements.

So far the enemies remind me of the thing or the ones from run like hell but pretty cool none the less. You run out of ammo fast in this game.

Yeah, but unlike SH:H it's plentiful. The only really bitchy enemies (that is, comparable to Homecoming's Needlers) are the bat things and that indestructible hulk of a monster.

That regenerating creature is annoying. I used up half my ammo before realizing there was a trick to killing it.

Try the armoured guys who charge you. I'm currently duking it out with one in Ch. 9 and it's a fucking pain.

Just beat it. Ending was a cinch but freaky ending. One of the few games I jumped at.
Trying round 2. Military suit looks pretty cool but makes the game easy if you have it on normal. Sucks you cant change the difficulty. 2nd go even brutes are easy.be sure to download the free elite suit on xbox. Its only available fore a couple more days. |

I went through the first run with the Elite suit.
Just beat it, too. Writing up a review for my university's paper, and I'm giving it a 5/5. Call me naive, but I thought it was brilliant. Spoiler:

I thought the game was very innovative, while still taking from a lot of other sources. The controls are original, the combat system is very unique and other small tid-bits like having no HUD and trying to break the shotgun, pistol, assault rifle mold.
Like you said I do think some things can get repetitive but in all honesty I really enjoy each mission. The detail that has been put into the game has been great! The environments vary from small choke points to huge Zero-G rooms with amazing an amazing scope of how small you really are. The story really does take a lot of 90's space movies and bunch them together. Mostly from Event Horizon and Alien, but they still do try and add their own little touches. I see the story as an homage to those movies while creating a great game; sort of what Dead Rising did. The "Strategic Dismemberment" is so much fun that if this game didn't have it, the game would be considerably less fun and more like other 3rd person survival horror games. In one review someone mentioned a lot of back tracking and FedEx missions throughout the whole game, but if you think about who you are and what you're supposed to be doing it all makes sense. You are an Engineer, a plain old simple Engineer. Your Stasis and Kinesis powers are not unique, all Engineers have them. It's awesome to be able to use weapons that are clearly not made for killing people used to combat the undead. So doing these FedEx missions and going around fixing the ship is a lot of fun, you're just doing your job and it couldn't be more satisfying completing your goals. I am currently on my second playthrough and I am trying to get the 1,000 achievement points so I can trade it in before Far Cry 2 comes out. The game is a blast, its long and has a great story. Dead Space is easily worth the price and I would recommend anyone who is a fan of Sci-fi or space movies to check this out. |

I've only played through the first and some of the second chapter, but while I do feel it is VERY deriative of RE4, the immersion level is the best of any horror game I've played.
Outstanding atmosphere so far. Its crazy to just look around and see the writing everywhere. I looked at one yesterday that I thought read, "I can't die yet, not after those things ate my son." The things like the blind lady at the beggining of the second chapter are freaky if you think about it. Imagine being her. Knowing everybody was dead, something was killing them all, and not being able to see it coming. Youtube has the dead space online comics that further fill out the backstory, and an animated feature is coming out the 28th of this month to transition between the comic and game stories. Work and going to see the UK/Arky game has stopped progression levels so far, but I'm get on it. |

In my review, I pointed out the similarity to the RE4 controls, but in a positive light. They're the best-suited to this kind of game, and by allowing movement while aiming it greatly improves on the standard the aforementioned game set.

I watched the first four comics a few days before the game came out and it was really great the way they created this universe of people and religion(even if its a satire on Scientology). It gave me a nice window into the world that you would later get to take part of and see the little parts of the comic in the game. I am planning on getting the movie when it comes out too, it just sounds so darn cool. One thing I hope they dont do it try and turn the game into a movie, an actual video game movie adaptation. I think thats one of the worst things they could do for this game(pretty much any game really). I also wonder if EA plans on making another game, but I would hope it could be from a different main character and time setting. It would be something that I would like to see and would defiantly buy into.

Ben Templesmith pencilling the comic makes me a Happy-Dan.
![]() Second playthrough now, though it's a brand new file because I wanted to go without the Elite suit. Not only do the regular rigs look better, but it takes more skill when you have to gradually increase your armour and inventory space. I also realized, late in my first playthrough, that those boxes with the green lights contain items. Now I am wiser. |

I am looking forward.
Some high-quality voice acting in this game. Dr. Kyne is Detective Stephens from The Dark Knight (the one whom the Joker taunts into attacking him), and Hammond is the Persian ambassador from 300 ("This is blasphemy! This is madness!"). |

My friend got his at an EB and got a free art book with it. Mine didn't, which is a same considering that the concepts in this game are just great.

Not sure if they have the same deal going on over here, but at the end of the month I do believe that a new 360 purchase is due...

Oh, I got a review of this game published in my university's newspaper. Also, my editor had me do a list of the Top 5 Scariest Video Games.
And thus Dan begins his career of professionally reviewing games. Sucks that they had me use an objective scoring system, though.
