3DS
Anyone had a bash on this yet? I was pretty sceptical but I had a go on one in a shop yesterday and fuck me, it works! The hardware etc seems fast as shit too, didn't have any games on hand but I got to explore the operating system and play default games where you take a picture of someones face on the 3d camera and it gets converted into enemy balloons for an augmented reality camera shooter.
Really impressed with the 3d part, again I didnt get to beast any games but even sonething as simple as exploring the home menus is cool as fuck thanks to the depth. The screen goes a bit weird if you turn it to the side so spectators are fucked, but there's a 3d slider on the side to adjust the amount of 3d and you can turn it down a bit to be more tilt-friendly as well as reducing battery con-sump-shun. Still not sure how the screen actually works but you get what seems like an inch of depth, with at least 3-4 layers distinguishable in what I played. |

I'm hoping they're good enough for people to throw away their DSes and sell them at ridiculously low prices on eBay (I want to buy one so I can play Pokemon Black/White....)

Be cool if they remade "A Link to the Past" but in the 3D style of Ocarina.

From what I've read you can adjust the extent of the 3D effect, so I gather you could turn it off.

hello, i quite like the 3DS; sure it's not got a huge range of titles and the 3D thing is mostly just a gimmick that is really bad for your eyes if you use it on marathon stints, but it comes with some fun little preloaded games that make full use of that 3D and can lead to some great giggles, such as faceraiders is always good for a laugh and making the player look insane by swinging the console around as if they're trying to swat a bee, and i'm glad i got it

FYI I picked up a 3DS last month. Have Zelda and Ghost Recon for it. Both good games. Although Ocarina of Time has dated a bit worse than I thought it might. Looking forward to some more games coming out in the coming months (Cave Story 3D, Starfox (although its another fucking remake!), Mariokart etc.
The augmented reality games made me go wowzers for about 15 minutes then I got bored. Downloaded a golf game on it that's been delivering tns of fun to me. And every day my pokedex 3D automatically downloads a new pokemon! Wow! No idea what I'm supposed to do with them. That is all. |

pokedex 3D - i think it's literally just a repository for stats and info. i keep excitedly doing each newly downloaded one's animation when i get them, but most of the animations are shit. | |

Ocarina of Time ain't as fun as it used to be. Dunno how it'd hold up to someone who's never played it.
You'll get bored of the pokedex once it fully sinks in that it's absolutely useless. My advice: Download the 3D golf game from the nintendo store. It is win. |

i realised the pokedex was useless quite some time ago, but some insane completionist urge makes me keep looking in it. sigh
is the golf game... free? i've never played golf before, real or simulated, so even if it isn't, i may get it for the novelty as well as how good a game it may be. i reckon i'll probably enjoy ocarina of time, maybe more so then someone who played the original; it's like when you see a movie adaptation that's good on its own merits but maybe changes a key aspect of the source material, which forever makes it unacceptable to those who love the source, or maybe it's simply not so good relative to the source, but relative to most other things it's amazing. what's the difference between this version and the original? what makes it less fun? |

It's exactly the same game, only with updated visuals. The 'less fun' just stems from the dated design.
I don't give two shits about golf but golf games have always pleased me. It's not free, it's about $12. But great fun and makes good use of the 3D. |
