It's still a worthy idea though. But how could you say A3 is better than A2?

Easily. Though I prefer Aliens too, I can see why people are more captivated by 3.

We all ahve to face the fact that if Fox gives the go for A5, which Weaver has stated she's willing to do (I can't remember if she said she'd do it only if Scott were directing), she will be the main focus.
After all, it's been 26 years of the alien AND Ripley. What they should have done was not bring her back in AR, that would solve this problem. But AR most likely wouldn't have been made if Weaver didn't sign on as lead actress and producer. My personal opinion on the genre of A5 should retun to the horror/sci-fi tone Scott set in Alien (which is the best one!). Aliens did the only logical thing to evolve the series, which was increase the number and annihilate them all. Cameron did that well, but the Alien is a stalker, not an E.T. Schwarzenegger. |

Re: ALIEN V = Possibly a prequel?

It might work, I have no idea. I think as long as it's a complete fresh new cast of characters with none of the cast having a leftover from previous Alien films it should be worth a second look. What I menat by leftover was like how they had Lance Henriksen in AvP, and he had roles in previous Alien films. No, have the whole cast new, so that will also mean new Marines. Also No "cloning" concepts.

I think some diversity in teh next film would be nice. Few soldiers. A prisoner or two. The mercs and civs.
See how they react to one another while being attacked by teh ALIENZ! I realize that the merc/soldier thing has been done before, but on a small scale. |

even if they decided to stick with the self contained format, by their nature film sequels tend to reference everything so as not to baffle newcomers to the series. for example with a3 you didn't need to have seen the previous two to understand what was happening. if a p3 was ever made it could "drop in" to the story similar to how a3 would have appeared to some. you're dead right that the second predator was basically a reprise of the first (although if you look at them broadly a3 could be a reprise of a1 and a4 could be a reprise of a2) but they don't have to stick with that formula to the original post though, if this prequel were to happen completely independent of the existing films so as to not damage continuity is there any real need to make it a prequel? i think prequels often tend to have a bit of a stigma to them, i think people look at it as greedy filmmakers trying to desperately squeeze out as much cash fom a series as they can. of course the whole reason for making films in general is to make money but prequels sometimes just seem crowbarred in as an afterthought

Hell, as much as I am telling myself not to get excited about something that could turn out to be nothing (just looking at all the other rumors on that site is a good enough reason why), I still couldn't help but feel a little twinge of excitement from bubbling up through the innards.
Especially if Ridley is involved. |
