Favourite Game Characters
Couldn't think of what other forum to put this in...
Those of you lucky enough to have access to my 'special' picture on facebook may have notice my top 5 game characters ever. They are: ![]() 1. Frog Purely because of the way he talks. Gentle ye olde english. He is legend. Been many a moon since I played Chrono Trigger but I remember my love for him. ![]() 2. Murray Because it's Murray. ![]() 3. Linda The lungfish segments of Psychonauts, along with the suburbia level, are the two moments in games that have made me chortle the most. Most of all when Linda gave her farewells and divulged the name given to her by her people. ![]() 4. Agro Surely the most loyal AI ever? Apart from that fucking useless AI dog in Fallout 3 that dies easily. ![]() 5. HK47 Provider of the only regular source of comedy to be found in Star Wars: KOTOR. And, off the top of my head, the only racist robot in the Star Wars universe. |

![]() Why? He's such a great character! We see a real journey of redemption and sorrow, for a character that I genuinely sympathised with and wanted to succeed. He was a flawed person with lots of regrets and bad past deeds, but damn it if I didn't want him to get the american dream. Barney Calhoun ![]() He just makes me smile. He's such a good-hearted character who provides a lot of the comic relief in HL-2. I don't really know why, I just love him! |

I have a soft spot for Raziel. Haven't played the games for bloody years but I still remember him. Cool appearance, cool way of talking, and great character. He's pretty much a pyscho but you still root for him, even though his goals rebound and change constantly. Kane is also great and he works so well against Raziel. ![]() He is so non-threatening it's hilarious. Every time you beat him its like "yeah you fat fuck thought you could mess with Sonic eh". ![]() Van Helsing. I actually really enjoyed the voicework done with this guy and the completely over-the-top dialogue (a little bit like Soul Reaver). He's a great character to follow around because he's so knowledgeable and resourceful and yet also really stuck up and gets excited over small things. The game has a perfect balance of not taking things too seriously and being over the top, but also not being silly or insulting to our intelligence. Very immersive, and the people who made it seemed to have fun. |

Isaac Clarke of Dead Space - I just feel bad for the guy, despite an apparent lack of personality and voicework.
Link of The Legend of Zelda series - tried but true. Skull Kid of The Legend Zelda: Majora's Mask - one of the darker characters in gaming history, largely because he's a a literally power junkie. Lisa Trevor of Resident Evil - just fucked. Andrew Ryan of BioShock - don't agree with his ideology but the mofo's very charismatic and I love his final cutscene. Bowser of the Super Mario series - has, in recent years, become the video game equivalent of Richard Nixon, at least to me. James Sunderland of Silent Hill 2 - a sympathetic, tragic, and very human figure. |

![]() Nameless One. ![]() Zeratul. ![]() Shodan. ![]() Garret. ![]() And Bob Page. And ditto on Raziel. I wish Crystal Dynamics would piss off with the Tomb Raider crap. And Amy Hennig would get her old job back. And Tony Jay came back to life. |

Wesker,Resident Evil Series - Was trying to have all the STARS members killed in gruesome ways for his own end in RE1,beat the shit out of Chris in RE CV and was responsible for all the horrible evil shite in RE5,also wears sunglasses all the time and has a fantastic old school hairstyle. In short a total self serving C*nt but a likable C*nt...in some way.
Garret,Thief series - Has an electric, mechanical eye, robs from the rich and keeps for himself and saves the world but hates being given that role when all he wants to do is nick more shiny gold stuff. Dr Breen,Half-Life 2 - When a villain makes you question your own actions ("you have destroyed so much is there anything you have created? can you name even one thing?") and motives you know you don't have an ordinary villain on your hands, you genuinely believe he does have some interest in protecting the human race even against its will, for a split second at least. Volgin,Metal Gear Solid 3 - Sadistic, built like a brick shit house, shoots lightning bolts and can even shoot bullets out of his hands without using a gun,and grabs people by the junk.Yes this motherfucker roughed up snake pretty bad and i couldn't wait to get even with him but overall one of the most feared of MGS baddies. |

![]() Captain Qwark from the Ratchet & Clank universe. I love this Flashman-style character, the galactic superhero who makes himself scarce at the first sign of trouble but is always there to take the credit afterwards. ![]() Sicamon's choice too. HK-47 was the only NPC in Knights of the Old Republic whose voice dialogue I didn't want to skip passed after 5 seconds. Brilliantly envisaged character. ![]() The Vault Dweller meets many colourful NPCs on his adventures in the Fallout games, but the fact that you can make him a colourful character himself makes him stand out amongst player characters. Gorgutz. War Boss and Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka fan boy, Gorgutz has none of the Ork hero's qualities but he's irrepressible. Every time Gorgutz's greenskins get stomped, he blames the nearest nob, kills him and flees to another planet and will be there, leading another horde of Orks to destruction in the next Dawn of War title. Whoever said Orkiness was about winning anyway? ![]() There are two big reasons that any male gamer should adore Taki. They are illustrated here, but not animated, and it's their animation that places them high in my affections. I still remember seeing the Soul Blade intro on the PS1 for the first time...

YouTube - Battlefield: Bad Company - Haggard
Haggard from Battlefield Bad Company, because he appeals to the more simple yet effective dumb humor side of me. ![]() ![]() Mr Slam from Twisted Metal, being from a farm it was the closest thing to a tractor i could pummel my friends with, the dude was a ging too. ![]() Darkside From Twisted Metal...cause hes a big truck, and i love trucks. ![]() William F. Guile...bain of my friends who play street fighter with me, not necessarily because i would pwn, but because they got tired of fighting him to the point of actual hatred of my face.....hes also the only guy i know special moves for....and hes cool...and we have partially the same name...and...hes cool YouTube - Team Fortress 2 - Meet the Demoman TF2 Demo man AHM A BLACK SCOTTISH CYCLOPS....THERES MORE FF *BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE*P THAN THERES THE LIKES O'ME. Thats all i can think of right now, i always play 'faceless hero' or 'random class charecter' in PC games, Consoles have the most story and single player focus i think. |

![]() Morte - Three words: Talking, flying skull. Nothing more really needs to be said other than that. But, for seriousness, Morte is probably one of the best passive characters I've seen for a game. That said, Morte is the cynical, sarcastic companion to the before-mentioned Nameless One. Morte offers comedic relief with his crass wit and glib manner, while also being a cornerstone for a lot of the character developement of the Nameless One. Other than character developement, he helps the player a lot through-out the game with his knowledge of the Multi-verse and other tid-bits of knowledge and know-how, as well as being a resilient, and.... somewhat.... steadfast fighter. Plus, he digs dead chicks. I mean, c'mon, is that an awesome character quirk, or isn't it? Really, just about any character from Planescape: Torment can be listed. All are pretty memorable in their dimensions. I listed Morte because he really fits my ideal of a companion character, in practical applications or otherwise. (Maybe that's why I don't like Alyx from Half-Life 2 so much?) |
