Ripping off the other threads a bit, but post your most wanted games.

Mine're...

Starcraft 2
Mass Effect 2
Final Fantasy XIII
Alpha Protocol
Assassin's Creed 2

Alpha Protocol is espionage RPG set in the modern day, being made by Obsidian. Looks pretty cool. The one I'm most looking forward to is Starcraft II, though. Wanting that nearly keeps me up at night, sometimes.

I haven't really been paying attention to that, but I imagine it'd be getting the standard Blizzard treatment. Huge delays, lots of polish. It's shaping up to be alright though, yeah?

Borderlands, anything STALKER, Diablo III OF COURSE, Mass Effect 2, Bioshock 2, Walking Dead : The Game (Fallout 3 like game following a zombie apocalypse, as described in the comic books series).

Atm, AVP 3. But I am really looking forward to the impending Mechwarrior release. At least I hope it sees a release. Aways off for sure, but it is damn exciting that a new Mechwarrior is coming. Bout time.

It sure is. I'm just astonished it's taking them so long from the time they released that demo. It seemed all but finished then.

Tbh I'm slightly concerned that it'll be just vapourware designed to boost the share price.

All the original developers split, anyway, and made Flagship Studios. Which pretty much sank, I think. I'm gonna go look at that demo. =]

I just read on a fan site that apparently Blizzard said at Blizzcon they were only going to release two games next year, Starcraft 2 and a WoW expansion... 2011 then.

Hoping Bad Company 2 has conquest gameplay with the same numbers that BF2 did, but with added destruction engine. Makes me really curiouse as to how BF3 will be different.

Sucks about the Aliens RPG, the screenys looked proper indepth and atmospheric, hope they come back to it. Have a feeling they will if AvP and A:CM go well.

i dunno i've been busy and occupied with scribblenauts lately. everythings a sequel because how do we know what to expect with unsequeled games? i mean once they come out we gladly accept them if they are good, but before that we can't really say what to expect

I think it's because old fashioned, creative, different games might get critical acclaim, but they don't sell well. Some off the top of my head: System Shock, Sacrifice, MDK, Messiah, Giants, Planescape: Torment, and Thief were all great games, but without the revenue to pump into advertising that big companies have, they all flop and the studios shut down. I remember reading a few years ago that only 1/5 games actually make a decent profit. There's no room for risks, and no way to get something new into the public eye. Sites like GameSpy and Gamespot can praise a game to high heaven, but still their news pages never get as many hits as the GTA cheat codes page.

i think thats mostly due to entertainment vs. art in the videogame world. there's tons of art games, but like art films, they never get as much money as a big blockbuster entertainment. the only way for them to get made is if they're pumped out on a lower budget, scribblenauts for example as the most recent one i can think of.
