Interesting Concept for an 'Aliens

I've heard about some sort of Half-Life mod in which players are either marines or alien monsters, except that one alien player has to manage their hive, much like an RTS.

What if there was a game that came out, where the player functions, say, as the Queen, being born and having to kill and fend for herself as she matures (to introduce the FPS gameplay) but once she becomes immobile, you have to plan out a hive, say within or near some sort of human settlement. You get a "round" or a set amount of time to develop and strengthen your hive, and then in the following cycle, you play as a creature you select, say, a praetorian guarding the queen, or a warrior, etc. You then have to fulfill a set of objectives specific to that caste.

So, let's say that your hive is being invaded by a squad of marines or a predator hunting party. You might opt to play as a praetorian in order to protect the queen and the eggs. Or your hive is secure, and you need to gather more resources. So you opt to be a warrior and leave the hive in search of human prey.

Sounds complex, I suppose, but it could be fun. I never did play Extinction so I'm not sure how well it all worked out....

Extinction could've worked, but it needed to be of a grander scale I thought.

45 alien units, 30 marine units, 11 pred units mixing it up jus didn't feel epic.

Needed to take it to a bigger scale.

The mod you speak of is Natural Selection. AvP Extinctions name before they realized that a high profile mod already had that name.

Actually i thought Extinction done it about right, except Aliens would've needed about 150 aliens instead of just 45.

Though marines should've had grenade launchers instead of SADARS, theres no friggin vehicles you can shoot at, and the shrine isn't so strong that you need a damn rocket launcher. Not to mention, most levels being inside it made no sense to have a weapon that would damage the structure itself just to kill a few xenomorphs or predators..

Re: Interesting Concept for an \'A

I used to think that 'Dungeon Keeper 2' could have made a great platform to do that.

Just needs to be stable enough to run on XP, these days.
