towns are nice starting out, but be wary of electro and cherno. Two biggest towns next to what is the normal coastal spawns and a favorite "pvp" area. Encounters there are over quickly one way or another.
Alas I'll be sad when I loose my gear, but until then I'm going to have so much fun at others expense! Well as soon as I find a damn ghillie suit! I'm currently at Stary Sobor. It has 10 or so military tents, each with the possibility of spawning military grade equipment! Server hopping until I find a damn ghille! |

This is a really well done DayZ movie

Updated to version 1.7.2.5 or w/e the newest one is. Found some clothing and am now rocking woodland camo with a brown shirt. Heading to NW airfield in search of a rangefinder. Stopping by Devil's Castle on the way there. 3 mags of suppressed M4 left and 2 for my 1911. One frag. It's a gift to the first person I meet.

My friend and I had been surviving for a while until the new patch. Then we had a hard time logging in as we got stuck on the loading screen. We would quit out to try and find another server that would let us log in.
Finally we were able to log in, but due to having to quit out earlier, it spawned us on the coast, I ended up breaking my legs crawling in a building. Died shortly after, but we were able to find our bodies and get our stuff back. we're saying that since it was the game messing up that got us, we never really died

Yah I had that as well yesterday.
Wasn't able to log in for ages and then finally got in and was at the coast. However I was much better and never broke any legs - so I don't see the game being at fault of you dying Have to say that the load times otherwise are very short now and my biggest annoyance is the glitching at airports (textures all over the screen) |

Nice, I expected him to hate it considering how much inside knowledge about the games quirks it takes to properly enjoy it. (like the buildings you can enter for example)
I've still been playing it regularly and enjoy living in the woods with a silenced bizon, ghillie suit and plenty of supplies and ammo. Plus I have a m4 in the backpack as well for backup. Being extra careful now to avoid contact, staying hidden and only raiding places which I need to. I'm somewhere around green mountains at the moment. Last time I played I sat in the bush and watched as some guy drove past me with a bike and almost crashed into a zombie Funny sight that one.

So I keep hearing to "hold out until they do their stand alone game", Arma 2 (demo) seems full of hackers and it drives me bonkers to the point of well... not buying the game. I hear the full game isn't any better.

Yes that's the main talk and suggestion to any "noobie" in most forums.
Especially since it's supposed to be coming out this year still - so the wait is not long. Yet - why not support BIS anyways for offering such a game and opportunity? Also, I haven't met a single hacker, so I've been lucky I guess. But this DayZ success story has been an amazing example in illustrating the whole Average consumer - PC - Console triangle. Someone should write a book about this since the findings are amazing. Take it this way: Before DayZ became huge, there were no issues with any cheating or hacking. OFP-Arma games have always been made for a tight "hardcore" market (so no 12 year old cutscene gazers yah) Now DayZ suddenly became "The thing" - everyone heard about it and after watching all the cool, funny & scary videos - everyone wanted it since it was the only thing out there with something like that. Suddenly this hardcore engine with a lot of freedom that wasn't really meant to "be easy and accessible" had a million people play it. This is like having an entire continent suddenly having to play chess competively - it just aint going to work. So now we have 4 groups in the game due to this illustrating quite well why dumbing down games has been necessary. 1. 60% = Morons who try to play this like a death match ie. COD or battlefield or something, they don't know half of the buttons so they mainly stick to running around large cities and shooting stuff. 2. 10% = Hackers - it's the segment that cheats because it can, since it's easy and because ARMA is very hard and we are not used to this anymore 3. 20% = People who try to play as it's supposed to be played but who have taken the easier way out and while not necessarily actively hunting for people, will shoot anyone they see. The excuse being "but they would shoot me anyways", this is to relieve quilt and protect yourself from the pain 4. 10% = The last brave who make this mod still so much fun to read & see about. These are the battlefield medics who come to heal your bones or save you from a pack of zombies. Those are the lone rangers in the woods who survive alone or with a mate and play carefully aiming to survive for as long as possible. Those are the folk that I still occasionally see and always raises the day to a "win" So here's my summary. I think the new version will get rid of the cheaters and most likely help cure the 20% that need to get back to the roots, but I'm not sure what to do with the other 60% If those 60% get on it as well like everyone on the forums suggest then we still will have a huge headache, because as I've always said "the majority are morons", fortunately there are a few games still out there that are not made considering the majority, I hope DayZ standalone will be one of them. Make it massively difficult! |
