Hopefuly by the 18th, Alienclaw, Valve might get thier thumb out and actually repair their steam powered servers so that you can get your authentication and play their game..
Then again... |

K, I got a free version of HL2 with my video card, so I was able to start playing at 7am this morning. I must say, it's uber fun. Only really played single player (played CS source a while ago) and it is way better than DooM3 in my opinion. I can't wait for people to start making cool mods for it (was I the only person who played Natural Selection? That game was way better than CS!).

Actually, on the whole, my process took around 40 minutes too, but i still think that's quite a long time. The steam registration even started "not responding" several times through the process, and my CPU usage was almost 100% at times. Ofcourse, with it being release day madness i can forgive Valve somewhat because i'm now up and running and enjoying their game. However, i've read reports of some people waiting up to 3 or 5 hours.

well one way or another Valve have serverly screwed over some of their fans yet again.
IF steam isn't working by the 18th i'll just get a crack (i buy ALL my pc games and so should you) since the hackers have already bypassed steam (i think, not tried it) so thats that. would it of been THAT hard for Valve to rent out aload more servers for a few days when HL2 first came out? oh and if i have to wait more than 5 mins (steam) to play this game i'll just crack it, I've already paid for it, so i'm playing it. 40mins forget that! ![]() read toooooo many reports of 5 hour waits and still not being able to play the game, while other people do it in a few mins. for those of you who used steam, how good is it and have/did you have any trouble unlocking it? hmm i think i'll try to make a steam account right now to save time:P edit: i've just thought of something great ![]() IF you download a hacked verson of the game to play YOU the pirate DON'T have to put up with steam!! only those of use who PAID MONEY for HL2 have to put up with steam, isn't that nice

I had a few initial problems creating a Steam account. But it was just problems with my user name. So I changed it, and it worked.

sad thing is its almost becoming common that hacks NEED to be used on some games to get them working right when you've paid for them. I'm very proud that as a gamer i own ALL of my games, though i do wish REALLY REALLY wish that i'd pirated that utter POS deus ex invisiable war, what a goddamn waste of money AND thief 3, was let down so much by war, they had promised SO much more for the pc verson and it shipped with console specs for christ sake. and theif 3 was just the same over and over and over again lame. so i would pirate those games, but sadlly i brought them since they should have been great.and it now looks like half life is the better series with out question compared to deus ex. which is almost a shame since its not even close. | |

How long was the activation for everyone? Mine was no more then 10 minutes. Some people are saying it took them a whole hour to activate it! Thats ridicolous.

About 10 minutes. It was as short and sweet as possible.

it took me six hours to get onto their servers.I almost gave up.Then another hour and a half maybe two hours to get it activated an have the files decrypted. All in all a real pain in the ass and long wait, which was unecassary.

i went to have dinner while my game activated and when i came back i still had time to read a magazine.
it's kinda long but with the amount of piracy about you can't blame them, it might just delay hacked versions showing up long enough for them to finish the main sales push that sells most of the copies. |
