Lots more stuff since I haven't logged in during the past 7 years. Place seems pretty dead unfortunately but highly nostalgic considering all my messages from my join date and post count has been preserved.

Became a chef. Started an LDR with a chick from England. Lived there for 2 years. She came to Aus for a year. We split because 5 years of LDR is more than I want in a lifetime. Did the tinder thing and got too close with one of my matches. We've been together since Feb and now live together. Happy.

Also conquered the cripping social anxiety I was suffering from up until I stopped posting here. Still hate nightclubs.

Some death and sickness with loved ones.

One of my best friends out of our guard unit just became a corrections officer. So far he's digging it, but he's a little fella and I wonder if he will continue to dig it when he catches one from some big dude.

Had my ups and downs since the last time I posted, i was probably still in high school then. Strange how I never forgot about this place.

Left high school job to work at a metal coating plant. Worked 76 hours a week with no days off for a few months and got hurt losing part of my finger; came back and did it for a few more months.

Left there to go to my "dream job" at the local steel mill where my dad works. Worked in the coke ovens which I'm confident calling one of the hottest nastiest jobs in the world for 3 years. Things were looking great, then they shut our plant down and I was unemployed for a year and almost became homeless. I was finally hired at a warehouse that was a shithole and became fairly depressed. Left there to work at a a train yard that was also a shithole, and was laid off after 3 months.

Then things took a good turn, I got hired on at kraft Heinz as an operator, 6 months later I was approached to take a report lead spot and did. Currently still there and looking to get into the quality assurance department to bolster my resume further if a permanent lead position doesn't become available.

That's a fairly abridged version of it. The amount of times I've thought about this place recently is eerie, mainly playing GTA online always reminds me of when I first joined, the height of GTA 3 and all the "secrets" we tried to uncover.

Glad to see some of you are still kicking, although I don't think o really interacted with many of you much. Fro/kob, glad to see you're doing well though buddy. The IRC days are some of my favorite memories of ol GG

Edit- Haha, I still have a CKY avatar. Glad they put out a new CD last year so I don't have to change it

I'm 35 now and married. My wife and I are renting half of a duplex, and my sister lives in the other half!

I'm back in college, despite being that weird middle-aged dude on campus, going back was probably the best decision I ever made (next to getting married). After I graduate I'm thinking of moving to California, I'm really sick of the weather here in Massachusetts.

You may recall that Lobo from GameGossip and I started Clan GUI (Gaming Under the Influence) back in 2004. I stopped playing computer games, but I've been told that the clan still exists and has about 40 members.

I figured as much. I know I popped into over and ozafy's server a few years ago and they were still there. Most of the IRC rooms I frequented are likely long gone, although I haven't attempted to go on Irc since my run in with them two.

Wow, been such a long time. Good to see some familiar names.

-I just moved from a 2 bedroom flat to a 4 bedroom house with my brother and my girlfriend of nearly 3 years. Insane amount of room.

-Been at my current job for nearly 3 years as a Data Administrator, looking for better paying work currently.

-I've cut down clubbing/ going to house parties but still maintain a somewhat active social life.

-I'm still into gaming but I can go days without gaming to playing videogames all day, weekends of course.

-Currently pursuing a healthier lifestyle, less alcohol, less unhealthy food, going gym 3-4 times a week and will be spending weekends cycling when weather gets warmer.

-Still got long hair and an even bigger beard.

    Bad -

    - My father was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and I took care of him in my home until he died in 2015
    - Doing the same with his sister now
    - A close friend got cancer and died in 2007
    - Another close friend got cancer and lived. Twice.
    - A former girlfriend moved up to help me care for my father (she was a nurse), and four months after he died she died unexpectedly
    - My partner left me unexpectedly after 8 years in 2013. I'm still getting over it.

    Good -

+ I left Microsoft after 11ish years for a position at Amazon. It's had its ups and downs but it was the right move.
    + My income has quadrupled
+ I have purchased two rental properties and am working on a third
+ I visited Beijing & Qinhuangdao in 2013 (spontaneous to get as far away from the breakup as possible)
+ I visited Bangkok and Krabi in 2015 and realized that life could be about more than work and responsibility
+ Also visited Lisbon and Lagos (Portugal) in 2016 and decided I'd like to live there for a while
+ I have been largely successful at setting up passive income so that I can walk away from my job, in only two years I'm halfway to my goals
+ I finally started dating again, although I know I keep her at more of a distance than she deserves due to fear and hurt
+ After 11 years of fine service from my diesel Jeep Liberty, I purchased a 2017 Volt and love it (316mpg over about 12k miles so far!). I still have the Jeep for fun.
+ Republican party left me behind with their increasing insanity. Somehow landed as a Democrat. Never one to do things half-ass, I'm now the chair of my legislative district. Guess fiscally conservative Dems are now permissible.

Summary: Fuck cancer. Fuck Alzheimer's. Fuck death. Those are the aspects I'm hating most of getting older. I am mostly getting over the past, and I believe I am building a decent future. I was die-hard about getting married and having a child or two, but now I find that isn't as compelling as it once was. I think I can seriously consider living abroad by 2019, which would be my 20th year in the Seattle area. I may jump at it unless something is very compelling (or I'm super in love with my job, which is possible).

    Now where is nVidiot_Whore?
For fun I'll add some updates now that it's about 10 months later -

    Bad -

    - In a disconnect with my boss that may lead to me changing teams or possibly leaving Amazon. I hope not, but things are not going well.
    - My aunt, who's Alzheimer's was largely stable in 2017 has started to noticibly decline again. That is, of course, inevitable but its not fun when you are the primary caretaker and you care about them a lot.

    Good -

    + Nobody has died
+ Amazon stock hit ridiculous levels which has helped me a lot
+ I purchased two duplexes at the end of last year, bringing my total rental properties to 4, with six total units
+ I have hit my baseline financial goals with the rentals, and will move to debt reduction now (ie: knock off the mortgages quickly) to mitigate risk
+ Took a trip to Shanghai for 12 days, I was there helping the gf recover from surgery. We had a good time and maybe my barriers are getting lower.

Summary: I think things are getting better although work has become a major point of stress. The problem with a company like Amazon is that it becomes a financial trap. I have hundreds of stock grants that vest over time, when I joined shares were at $175 and they closed friday at $1610. It's hard to walk away from those vesting dates as even if I can get a comparable base salary, nobody is going to offer me enough bonus/stock to make up for Amazon. Now granted its not all about the money, but the money is what is making it look likely I can retire before 45 and if I leave that plan becomes far less certain.

    I know, first world problems.

I am strongly considering retiring when I hit a certain level of financial security, moving to Portugal and buying a small house near Porto. I really like it there, and the cost of living is very low. When I say 'retire' I don't necessarily mean 'never work again', but I would be free to pursue my own business ideas without worrying about losing my house. Anyone have any thoughts on that?

Update from me - back into the real estate development game big-time again. Developing out two big subdivisions, biggest ones I've ever done, and got a few side projects in the works. Hopefully going to have the first few houses on the market in a few weeks. Been busting my ass on these projects for months now.

Also got back into martial arts seriously a few weeks ago. Training with a couple of MMA guys 4 nights a week, one is a pro and the other is set to go pro after his next fight this next weekend.

Reflex - re: Retiring Early. I'm a big fan of retiring early if you can. Just like you said, not just stopping work, but being financially stable and being able to concentrate your life on something YOU want to do or control instead of working 'for the man'

And I'm a huge huge fan of rental units.

I wish I had known these things back in the day when I was doing the whole 'Madbomberz Life Kickz Azz' thing. Investing my money into rentals and being set to retire instead of living on the edge like I did. I walked away from the housing crash relatively ok, far better off than most of my associates as I wasn't as leveraged as they were, but if I still wish I had approached things differently.

Oh well, that's life experience for you - I was only in my mid 20's back then.

That and I wish I had invested in bitcoins at $26 / bitcoin when my buddies had bugged me to do so. :-D
