My laptop is getting on a bit. It's on the books to get replaced as soon as I have a regular job.

    Core i7 4700MQ 2.4GHz
8GB RAM (there's actually 16 in there, but one of them isn't being recognised and I've never bothered to check if it's the stick or the slot)
    GTX 780m

Most of it is actually my own rips from my expansive dvd and blu-ray collection, not to mention my FLAC rips of all my CD's and some vinyl too.

    i7-7700k
    GTX 1070
Mushkin Enhanced Reactor 2.5" 1TB SSD
    16GB of RAM

I upgraded from an AMD 8350 and a 6800HD series graphics card. Night and day. First time I didn't budget-build my PC and it was nice.

I use it mostly for gaming and whatnot. Work is done on VMs on the home lab so I don't need a ton of RAM for local VMs or anything.

    Intel Core i7-7700K
    32GB RAM
    GTX 1080
    2 x 500GB SSD
    8TB HD

    2 x 29" monitors, 1 x 27" monitor, and sometimes a 52" TV

I've got my old rig running my media system and going to make it be my media server when I get the TV room finished.

I recently did the same thing, ripping all my DVD's and such. Ended up with almost 700 movies and god knows how many albums. I have them sitting on a number of external drives until I get the media server up and running.

Man I've thought of doing that, I have a lot of storage, but that requires me to have something to rip DVDs/Blurays with, which I don't, and to probably re-evaluate using Plex (haven't been the happiest about how it sorts shit).

Plex is really good now. I'm a plexpass owner. I recommend MakeMKV for ripping and Handbrake for compression, if you want that.

This here. I also have 16TB on my QNAP NAS and I use it mostly for Plex. I don't bother with compression, I do MakeMKV, rename my files and add metadata. Plex handles MKV's just fine, even when I watch remotely. Storage is cheap these days and I have four more bays on my NAS (currently have 4 occupied with 8TB drives in RAID1 sets). It was fun laying in bed with my gf in Thailand and watching movies on my tablet that were streaming from my home. Private Netflix basically.
