What Are You Listening To? v5.0
As always...
Song : Artist : Album : Genre : Released : Song Length : Why You Like It : ('I like it' does not suffice) Best Bit : (in a '0:00' format with a short description) Favourite Line : (if the song has lyrics) I'll re-iterate again, if someone blatantly doesn't make an ounce of effort to type out at least a couple of sentences as to why they like the song or doesn't bother to fill out the post criteria in general, their post gets deleted without notification. So make an effort, titbiscuits. ![]() If you don't know year of release, what album the song's from etc, go here to find out. |

Song: On Rich and Poor
Artist: Amorphis Genre: Doom/Folk Metal? Released: 1996 Song length: 5:18 Why you like it: It's different to anything that i've ever heard before, it takes me away to another place. Best Bit: 1:43 into it, the whole song changes pace after the awesome lyrical section by Pasi Koskinen, theres a riff thats played between Tomi Koivusaari and Esa Halopainen (rhythm and lead respectively) that to me is one of the highlights of the album. These two guitarists work awesomely together by the way, some of the best stuff i've heard in a long time. It's a riff that gets your head moving and your ears listening harder for the next piece of musical genius. Favourite Line: Without the moonlight stumbled With our fists fumbled the land With our hands we sought out roads With hands roads, with fingers swamps We could not live without a sun Or manage without the moonlight Who would seek out the sun? Who would spy out the moon? Who else if not god The one son of god? |

Song : Don't Look Back in Anger
Artist : Oasis Album : What's the Story Morning Glory? Genre : Rock Released : 1995 Song Length : 4:40 Why You Like It : God...this song is so good. I've loved it from the day i first heard it, and it seems to me like this song has reached almost everyone who was growing up during the time of it's release. It reminds me of growing up into an individual and coming out of those angst-filled years of youth. To me, it's kinda happy with a melancholy spin. My boss hates it when i play it on the piano at work...it makes him cry. Just goes to show how the song reached so many people in so many different ways. Best Bit : 0:37 The pre-chorus and into the chorus has got to be the most memorable part of the song for everybody. Talk about power. This is when my boss usually starts throwing shit at me. Favourite Line : Pre-Chorus and Chorus - So I |

Song: Destined to be dead
Artist: 8 foot sativa Album: Season for assault Genre: Heavy/Death metal Released: No idea Song Length: 3.46 Why You like it: Its a really great song and the intro is just....unbelievably great, its got very nice guitar riffs and the two different "types" of screams coincide very well. Best Bit: 0:00 - 0:33 It starts with a great guitar riff and then an amazing scream Favorite line: None really, but that scream is just so good ^__^ |

Song : Joyful Sound
Artist : String Cheese Incident Album : Outside Inside Genre : Rock Released : Unknown Song Length : 6:28 Why You Like It : Lyrics are amazing. Anybody with a heart and soul gets something out of it. A real feel good song, if there ever was such a thing. Best Bit : Repeating of course, because its the chorus. A simple na na na make a joyful sound but it fits the tune perfectly. Favourite Line : Do onto others and play a fat bass run |

Song : By The Way
Artist : Red Hot Chili Peppers Album : By The Way Genre : Rock Released : 2002 Song Length : 3:35 Why You Like It : A great opening track to what I consider a slightly disappointing album (which I have managed to lose : ), I reckon it shows that the Chili Peppers have grown up a bit in terms of the technicality of their songs, but haven't lost touch with their funky California roots that make them so unique.Best Bit : From 2:45 to 3:15. The final chorus and perfect climax to the song. I'm a total sucker for harmonies and Kiedis' occasionally suspect voice is at its best here, along with Frusciante's more soulful falsetto. And oh my god I sound like a total wanker - it's just fucking awesome. Have a listen. Favourite Line : Standing in line To see the show tonight And there's a light on Heavy glow |

Song : Hurt Conveyor
Artist : Fear Factory Album : Digimortal Genre : Industrial Metal Released : 2001 Song Length : 3:40 Why : Not one of their finest songs, but still retains the familiar theme of an aggrevated machine - especially in this case due to the subtle samples. Evil synths and digital pulses that can only really be heard when played loud scatter themselves throughout and compliment the crunching guitars and drums as well as usual. Best Bit : (0:22) Listen closely, the pulsings I mentioned are just too cool. Favourite Line : Come to your senses and this will repent us And judge you for all that you are Comatose and you're oblivious To the confession that proved you a liar I fall down into your own despair I was lost, now I'm found Now what do you want from me? |

Song : Erpresser Schiessen Nicht
Artist : Fantomas Album : Delirium Cordia (Surgical Sound Specimens from the Museum of Skin) Genre : Ambient Metal Released : 2004 Song Length : 1:14:17 Why : I listen to this to get me inspired, or in the zone. It's like the soundtrack to a nightmare, and I notice new bits and pieces every time I hear it. Best Bits : (1:20) Layers of Mike Patton chanting after a short but sweet guitar/drum breakdown, interrupted around 2:20 by a similar assault. (4:17) More of Patton's weird skat-vocals over mystic sounding effects, toppled over by a drum assault and replaced by an excellent medly of eclectic percussion. The latter part is complimented by Patton shrieking like a terrified schoolgirl. (7:10) Terrifying gothic chimes pulsing over what sounds like a chaotic emergency room procedure. This gives way at 8:30 to a gentle "eye of the tornado" moment with Patton crooning softly to a dreamy piano. And that's just in the first ten minutes. I'd go on but it would take too long. |

It's an awesome song to start of the album, the drumming is insane, and Chads vocals make me want to touch myself... Best Bit : 2.07 (approx), The drums build up and then kick into turbo get fucked mode, first time I heard this it just blew my mind Favourite Line : So wrong... wrong... WRONG..... Song : Animal
Artist : Pearl Jam Album : Rearview Mirror, Greatest Hits Genre : Grunge Released : 2004 Song Length : 2.47 Why You Like It : Kinda gives me a buzz, it's one of the songs I've liked for ages, but didn't realise it was Pearl Jam, kinda like Even Flow in that sense. Best Bit : No specific part really. Eddie's vocals are pretty mad, the drums are really put to good use as well. Favourite Line : I'd rather be... I'd rather be with.... I'd rather be with an ANIMAAAAAAAAAALLL |

Song : Colony
Artist : In Flames Album : Colony Genre : Metal Released : 1999 Song Length : 4:39 Why You Like It : Arguably industrial in parts, intertwined with typical vorticular riffs and medieval acoustics. Love the progression to this track, the thundering drums crash in sporadically over Anders' bittersweet poetry in true orgasmic fashion. Best Bit : (0:37) After the inital breakdown, the signature progression of the song takes over. Favourite Line : Machine, meat and blood In an intimate relationship The new superior More effective than all preceding When we can no longer cry And reality is torn Then it's easy to forget The responsbility lies on us all In your world, the night is no threat In my world, the darkness transforms To a vision of hell Populated by the fathomless and unbearable |

Song : Trapped in the Wake of a Dream
Artist : Mudvayne Album : The End Of All Things To Come Genre : Math/Industrial Released : 2002 Song Length : 4:43 Why You Like It : Crazy friggin timing, when I first heard it I had no idea what to expect next, the drum arrangements, especially where he chimes in with the snare is awesome. The intro and outro buildup is utter brilliance and I can't help but smile whenever I hear it. Best Bit : Drumming during the intro and outro. And also at about 3.00, when the song hits its climax. I'm gettin all tingly in the pants... ![]() Favourite Line : [i]Do I deserve these beatings? Hating me, Well then, Cut, cut the noose And let me fall away... I |

Song : Goodbye Sober Day
Artist : Mr Bungle Album : California Genre : Surf-y swing rock with Arabian/death metal influences Realeased : 1999 Song Length : 4:29 Why You Like It : Great closer to a great album. I love the fact that the song rolls along at a leisurely pace with a kind of bouncy, happy-go-lucky attitude before descending into ominous chants and eventually all out metal carnage. It's like listening to the merciless holocaust of a drunken beach party. Best Bit : (1:50) Ignorant bliss is replaced by tidings of doom. The mood drops like a bomb. Favorite Line : "Pin my ear to the wisdom post Hang me up and drain me dry Mend my shipwrecked spirit Lift the veil from my eyes Goodbye sober day The years grew wings and flew away" |

Song : Lost To Apathy
Artist : Dark Tranquility Album : Character Genre : Melodic Death Metal Released : 2005 Song Length : 4:38 Why You Like It : Whilst In Flames drastically altered their sound and perception towards music throughout the 90's/00's (most noticably with Anders' voice) fellow Swedish melodic metallers Dark Tranquility (who Anders was vocalist for at one point) have been a little more consistent in their exclusive demonic vocals and undeniably more aggressive approach, though still managing to have an unmistakable hint of innocence in the distant synths and ambient breakdowns whilst also retaining a good sense of creating non-linear brutal music. The song drums up imagery of the huge steepled Nordic castles of old whilst blood red clouds swirl overhead. I could go on about how ace this song is for ages...truly one of the most polished metal tracks I've heard in a long time, I'm getting the album soon as pos. Best Bit : (3:02) A simplistic yet aurally perfect guitar solo reaches it's delicate climax - it doesn't really strike you how cool it sounds until it finishes and the track picks up pace again. Mikael's inhuman snarl of the mantric "Empty, fragile, weak" during the chorus is brilliant also. Favourite Line : [i]The unsaid tone of weak despair fails to resonate Frayed ends of our binding threads will disintegrate By laws our physique states a failure to communicate Ongoing choices, the trials will end Filter the nonsense and laugh at what |

Song : The Dead Flag Blues
Artist : Godspeed You Black Emperor Album : Infinite Symbol Genre : Instrumental Released : No idea. Song Length : 16:27 Why You Like It : Just the atmosphere of the song, you just get this dark, dreary feeling, like the songs were recorded at the end of the world, and the apocalypse is going on... very moody. Favourite Line : (monologue) The skyline was beautiful on fire, all twisted metals stretching upwards, everything washed in a thin orange haze. I said Kiss Me You're Beautiful, These Are Truly The Last Days. You Grabbed my hand, and we fell into it like a daydream, or a fever. |

Artist : Mindless Self Indulgence Album : You'll Rebel to Anything Genre : Crazy acid metal ![]() Released : 2005 Song Length : 2:32 Why You Like It : It bashes emo kids and its speed and crazy melody is sweet. Best Bit : 1:40 - End, because the lyrics are all tied together and it's a nice, pleasant way out. Favourite Line : Boo fuckin Hoo you're not the only one whose life's a piece of shit And yet miraculously somehow we all seem to deal with it Did anybody think that you would really seriously slit your wrists?
