Using BitDefender myself right now, after years of Norton. I prefer my new one. More control, more precision, methinks.

Only proble, is Norton is not better.

Norton updates its definitions much slower then Mcafee.

Norton is a resource hog.
Norton's Firewall is horrible due to the fact that configuration and ease of use is about nil, compared to Mcafee security center.

When it comes down to the line - Mcafee preforms better when dealing with overall system compatablity.

As far as which is better - in a buisness environtment Mcafee is better. It auto updates its defintions and engine when it needs to, without asking you.

Norton asks way to many questions and loads 3 seperated software pieces.

Mcafee is better. When comparing the two. BUT - there are millions of better products out there.

The list is long. The best way to figure it out is to try a few freeware/shareware apps then keep the one that preforms to your liking.

Dempsey has disabled reputation
My computer had dozens of problems right after we got it. After a reformat however I installed nortan antivirus and it's been running beautiful.
Friend has McAfee (I think) and I didn't like the look of it.

So +1 for Nortan.

I agree, just make sure you have a firewall and XP + Service Pack 2. Unless you're constantly browsing sketchy porn sites all day, you should be fine.

Plus it's free. Even if you buy the pro version the def files are free forever with Norton and Mcafe you pay a yearly fee to get def files something like 20 bucks.
