Anyone watching this HBO series? I think it's only 2 episodes in so far, but I'm already very engrossed in it. All that great fantasy/medieval crap we all love without being silly. Lately I've been watching this and AMC's The Killing (which is pretty mediocre after 5 episodes), so I think Game of Thrones is off to a pretty interesting start. It's good to see HBO going back to making good shows, what with this and Boardwalk Empire.

I hear this is based on some book series I will never read. Anyone read the books and watching the show?

it's only the flagship of the hbo enterprise and currently makes.. oh 50% more than the sopranos per episode. international subscription skyrocketed in the months proceeding its release. it's also been entirely worth the anticipation these past three years or so

it's a wonderful tale of rape and betrayal in a realistic feudal setting

I'll admit I know maybe 2 character names, but they do such a good job with the characterization (like "that's-the-sissy-blonde-guy-who-hates-the-jolly-fat-king," or "that's-the-huge-scary-dude-who-leads-the-army-of-huge-scary-dudes") that I'm sure I'll pick up their names in time. I imagine it's difficult to really make people's names stick, with so many characters and so much to set up early on. But they're off to a good start, and like I said, I'm pretty interested after only 2 episodes.

they've even cut out a significant number of the minor characters. in the back of each book is an index with all the names and their titles/loyalties to various houses

Yeah so far I've just organized them in my head as Sean Bean's crew, Blonde Asshole posse, Huge scary guy gang, Blonde Sissy social club.

expect that number to multiply a few times over. oh, and the prologue is only a taste of what will not be seen for a very long, long time--depending on artistic license ofc

I have just started watching this after having it recorded on Sky+. Someone told me that Sean Bean wasnt in the whole series. Is that true, if so does he get killed?

I like it so far but I dont know if that is just down to Sean Beans spreading of the Yorkshire accent.

Great, great show. I anxiously await Joffrey's castration, torture and beheading and if that doesn't actually happen in the book/show then I will be upset.

Excellent show, one of the best I've seen in ages. Season finale was epic and the ending a total cliffhanger! But yeah I echo your sentiments, too bad we have to wait so long for the next season Suppose I could read the books in the mean time, I've heard they're great. Really a shame about Ned Stark, Joffrey is such an evil little bastard.

I tried to tell all you fools to read this series back in the day on these forums and was ignored. Now I have to wait at least four more seasons while withholding numerous spoilers for you fools to catch up.

At least in that four year time span, the cunt known as George R.R. Martin will not have released the sixth book by then.

Here's hoping hbo producers can push the lardass into finishing the books on a somewhat reasonable time scale before he dies of CONGESTIVE HEART FAILURE.
