Batman Begins Review (no Spoilers)

I was lucky enough to see Batman Begins tonight at an advanced showing and thankfully I come bearing good news. This is a great super hero movie.

I'll first say I'm not a big fan of Batman. What i know from Batman is primarily from the animated series, which is great, but sadly I have not touched the comics. But I have enough knowledge of batman to know what is going on.

If you've followed the development of this film you probably know what is all about. Hell just read the title of the movie and your all set. In a nutshell the movie is about the beginning of batman from the murdering of his parents to his martial arts training, to how he picked his alternate persona. The general feel of the film deals with the concept of fear and how Bruce Wayne and eventually all of gotham, have to deal with it.
As for the enemy (or enemies) the movie basically deals with the corrupt gotham as a whole, from the mobsters controlling the city to the Scarecrow (and others) trying to destroy it. Overall the story is great and fantastically directed. And the acting is spot on. Overall it puts Tim Burtons movies to shame... execpt for one thing. Style.

Don't get me wrong the movie looks great in a lot of ways, but there is just something very generic about it. After seeing the Tim Burton movies and the animated series I just fell in love with the gothic, film noir style of Burton's movies, where the old and new are intermixed. In this version everything seems very modern, and frankly it lacks any type of style. I was also kind of sad not to hear Elfman's Batman theme, but Han Zimmers music is still great.

All and all the movie is comparable to Spider-man 2 in terms of Super Hero movie quality. Nice length, Great story, great direction, nice comical bits and everything else you'd want from a well done comic book movie.

My pudding is trapped forever!

Spiderman2, well spiderman in general I don't like.

Only decent flicks they've put out would be The X-men.

Really glad to hear about Batman. I was pretty confident it would be a good flick but it seems like it could even be slightly better then I expected. If it compares to Spidey 2 then its gotta be pretty good.

If your only complaint is a lack of style, then the movie is in very good shape. While I will probably notice what youre talking about, Id rather have a style problem then something much more important. Like story, dialogue, or acting problems.

One review I read said something about Scarecrow almost justifying an "R" rating, which is cool. I'm glad Batman has gotten back to its darker roots. And what a great choice for director. I mean, Momento? Insomnia? How can you go wrong?

Truthfully, though, it'll have to be pretty awesome to beat out my love for Burton's original. Nick is the shit.

You know, it's funny. I love the burton style for batman. but my friend who saw "Batman Forever" before any of the others only likes the Val Kilmer batman, and hates the gothic style.

I couldn't even stand the look of gotham in that movie...

I'm glad to hear a genuine review that's all thumbs up.

I have suspicions this will be good. Batman was my childhood favourite until Schumacher shat all over it. I'd rather hope it's up there with Sin City than Spidey 2.

Yeah, same here. If it merely compares to Spiderman 2, which compares to The Punisher, then it's hardly worth paying to see it...

I didn't mind The Punisher. I thought the original was better though, even if it is terribly outdated.

I'm really anxious to see Batman though. Bale is fantastic....

I'm surprised to see so many people disliked Spider-man 2. Anyway one incredible thing about this film is that he doesn't even don the suit until the second half of the movie. There is still plenty of ass kicking though.

Good news. As a Batman nut, I can say it's about time for a good live-action Batman flick. Thanks for the review.

He is good, though I'm not familiar with how old Scarecrow was in the comics I feel that Murphy is a bit young, but he does very well. Unlike previous batman movies, the Bad guys are sort of downplayed in terms of their mental problems, then again I think Scarecrow was just sadistic and the other bad guys in the movie are just extremists.

I am heartily looking forward to this. I'm not utterly stoked on all things Batman, but I nejoy the character enough and considering the cast, I don't think I won't enjoy it.

Edit: Enjoy*
