SCEE Recalls Slimline PS2 Adaptors (HOT ITEM)
Andrew 'Talon' Wilson :: 04:24 AM @ September 13th, 2005 :: PS2: General

( READ ATTACHED PRESS RELEASE ) This morning, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) announced that its recalling certain AC Adaptors used with the black slimline PlayStation 2. The recalled adaptors were manufactured between August 2004 and December 2004, and were supplied with slimline PlayStation 2 models SCPH70002, 70003 and 70004. The reason for the recall is due to the risk of overheating. As a result, the recall covers affected AC Adaptors in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Australia. Additional indicators people should look for is the product ID code of HP - ATH048H03, and the following date stamps: 2004.8, 2004.9, 2004.10, 2004.11 and 2004.12.

Those needing to replace their adaptor (check your system model number) can either contact a recall Helpline, which will be published in newspapers in Europe on Wednesday September 14th, 2005, or by visiting this newly launched PlayStation 2 Adaptor website.

Bloody hell!
#2 - Talon - 09/13/05 @ 06:41 AM EST
I take it you have to exchange your adaptor?
#3 - nemarsde - 09/13/05 @ 06:51 AM EST
Yep.

Although I'm tempted to keep it over the winter. It honestly does make a great foot-warmer.
#4 - Talon - 09/13/05 @ 07:12 AM EST
Well if you do, just keep a close eye on your ps2.
#5 - nemarsde - 09/13/05 @ 10:24 AM EST
It'd only be the adaptor that'd burn out, right?
#6 - nVidiot_Whore - 09/13/05 @ 11:16 AM EST
I have that model.

Of course I'll probably never play my PS2 again.

LOL

I thought you lived in the U.S. nVidiot Whore.

nemarsde, SCEE wasn't too specific in the press release issued this morning, but if I were you (to play it safe), i'd just get your adaptor replaced. I say this of course based on just what overheating could entail. You might recall certain ... situations with Xbox units.

Should've read further.. I assumed this was for all slimline PS2's made last year.
#9 - nemarsde - 09/13/05 @ 01:23 PM EST
Talon. In reply to #7. Yeah, but that only caused a problem for idiots who didn't heed the warnings and continued using their adaptors 'cos they thought it made a great foot-warmer.

I'm pretty sure I made it clear in the story it applied to Europe and not North America. Sorry about that nVidiot Whore.

nemarsde, i agree. Just saying it's probably smarter in the long run for both playing it safe and financially for you to just get the free replacement.

I skimmed, not your fault ;)

Then I guess my feet go cold this winter.
