Halo The Movie Update: Peter Jackson Signs On (HOT ITEM)

The X05 news keeps coming and now, in keeping with the "each announcement is bigger than the last," it seems Universal Pictures and Twentieth Century Fox have signed Academy Award winners Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh to serve as producers of the upcoming feature film based on Halo. The signing of the two will see Jackson and Walsh providing counsel on the entire film through their WingNut Film company, with Jackson's Weta Digital and Weta Workshop providing creatures, visual effects and miniatures.
As a gaming fan, Im excited to bring HALO's premise, action and settings to the screen with all the specificity and reality todays technology can provide, said Jackson. Fran and I are intrigued by the unique challenges this project offers, and were delighted to be working again with our friends at Universal, and with our new ones at Fox and Microsoft. Im a huge fan of the game and look forward to helping it come alive on the cinema screen.

I couldnt be more pleased, or proud, to continue our relationship with Peter and Fran on this film, said Stacey Snider, Chairman of Universal Pictures. There are no filmmakers who better understand the delicate balance between technology and drama, and how the best use of todays astonishing digital tools is in the service of not only spectacle but also a solid story. We are confident that the HALO feature film can be most fully realized under the creative direction of Peter, Fran and Weta.

Peter Jackson is one of Hollywoods most exciting innovators, and our partnership with him will greatly broaden the appeal of the HALO franchise, said Bill Gates, Microsofts Chairman and Chief Software Architect. Were confident hell create an epic that not only thrills existing HALO fans, but also introduces millions of moviegoers around the world to this amazing saga.

Halo the movie is set to be shot in Wellington, New Zealand, with the movie set for a summer 2007 release worldwide. Stay with us for more news throughout the day.

This whole thing is getting a little silly.

I'm expecting a video from Osama bin Laden tomorrow:

"We will fight imperial aggressors making HALO movie propaganda! We stand with our Covenant brethren!"

Hey, atleast its a decent director. It could be that asshole who seems to gobble up games to movie titles and ass fuck em. House of the Dead, who ever directed that. Not really looking forward to the movie, but atleast there's no reason to write it off yet.
#3 - Apple - 10/04/05 @ 06:13 PM EST
Yeah but he's producing, not directing apparently...

And I hope i wasnt the only one to think the halo storyline was bloody shit. That said, i KNOW i'll go and see it.
#5 - colinp - 10/04/05 @ 06:30 PM EST
Yeah, no director yet.

I'm with you Apple. As soon as the all knowing plant came into the picture I lost all respect for Bungie and the Halo universe.

Yeah.. they should have given this project to Uwe Boll.. he's cornered the market on awesome video game movies.

I was going to put a link to, but the page isn't loading for me right now.. if you can get it to load, it's a gem!

The funny thing is, Uwe Boll seems like an ok guy. It's just his movies suck 7 flavors of ass.
#8 - EyeLikeP00 - 10/04/05 @ 09:22 PM EST

Doesn't anyone else see this as good news? I'm surprised by the reactions. I realize Peter and Fran are producing and not directing but I can't help but think this news at least helps to increase the credibility (potential) of this movie......instead of Talon's 7 flavors.

AaronQ -

He is just an Executive Producer. He has no real control over the film once it starts shooting. He will most likely just be a figure head, getting an increased budget out of the studio, and being a Trojan Horse for the marketing of the film (think "Hero" and the use of Quentin Tarantino's name, or anything that Steven Speilburg Executively Produces - like the 4400).

AaronQ, I was talking about Uwe Boll. Commenting on his movies (HOTD, Alone In The Dark, etc).

I never knew I could comment on this shit. w00

But yeah, I was just saying the other day how most videogame-to-movie mosies are usually horrible. [IE: Mario Bros, Resident Evil 1/2]

I'm really worried about the Doom movie. Especially featuring The Rock as a main character.. But yeah I gues we'll just have to wait and see, huh.

Mario Brothers was awesome!! *insert joke here
The rock did really well in the run down so there is a glimmer of hope.
