Developer Bugbear and Empire Interactive jointly announced today plans to release FlatOut 2 during Summer 2006 across the Xbox, PlayStation 2 and PC platforms. Building on the off-road racer, FlatOut 2 will feature revamped and new modes of play, multiple vehicle styles, and 12 ragdoll stunt events. The game will also include 8-player online play for the Xbox and PC, with six player support for the PlayStation 2.
Taking the unique and innovative elements of FlatOut and improving and expanding on them, FlatOut 2 is aimed squarely at being the most destructive racer ever. Tracks are filled with crash hotspots, thousands of dynamics objects, risky but rewarding alternative routes and designed with battle racing in mind.

And battle you must as you take to the races against seven fierce AI opponents each complete with personal driving style and hidden agendas. You'll be delivering amazing amount of damage to you rivals and the track visualized like never before with FlatOut's peerless physics and damage modeling engine.

Featuring even more craze in the form of destruction derbies and ragdoll stunt events, you'll be punishing your poor driver in twelve ragdoll stunt events.

In other FlatOut news, Bugbear issued word via its website that the original FlatOut has sold over 600,000 units worldwide. Check back for more on FlatOut 2 as it develops.

Call me crazy but I think their target base is going to be long gone by then.
#2 - Talon - 10/12/05 @ 01:13 PM EST
Well crazy, you have a valid point. I question why any games are still being announced for current-generation consoles.
#3 - EyeLikeP00 - 10/12/05 @ 02:46 PM EST
What?? There's not going to be a PC anymore?!
#4 - Ray Ban - 10/12/05 @ 03:26 PM EST
It's probably because I'm dead tired, but I read the title as Fallout 3. Damn you, Interplay! Damn you to hell!!
#5 - dougman - 10/12/05 @ 03:49 PM EST
nah, pc gaming is dead. long live consoles. :P
I'm too lazy to upgrade my pc for anything anymore.

PC gaming is alive, you just need a microscope.

I can't wait till I get my new computer next week. Right now all I have is my computer at work, and well, I can't very well play games on it. Then, next month the 360 comes out. I may as well tell my gf to get a pillow and catch some rest. :)
#7 - Talon - 10/12/05 @ 06:02 PM EST
Pretty sure I listed PC there.

Nah that was a joke Talon.. cause you were talking about developing for current gen.. and PC was listed with Xbox and PS2... nevermind, it was lame.
#10 - Talon - 10/12/05 @ 06:56 PM EST
Yeah, gonna agree with ya there :P
#11 - Blindside - 10/12/05 @ 07:11 PM EST
The original game was a lot of fun. Simple and enjoyable, perfect for when you just want to jump into a game and have a bash for a little while. The bonus stuff where you would launch the driver out of the car and into a distant dart board etc etc was great for a laugh too.

Ray Ban. In reply to #4. Whenever there's any headline about FlatOut I read it as Fallout. Wishful thinking.
#13 - Shataan - 11/27/05 @ 07:29 PM EST
There is no reason to bother upgrading PCs anymore. Why? For the paltry 5 or 6 PC titles released a year? PC gamers are taking it up the azz imho. When ya spend what we do on a PC, I expect to get way more game than just what a console delivers.
