The Sims Onlines Bows to the Mob (HOT ITEM)
Turner 'Bulldog' Hopkinson :: 12:31 AM @ June 8th, 2003 :: PC: Role-Playing
:: Print This Article :::: Send This Article To A Friend ::
It would seem a small group of trouble-makers have banded together in Maxis and Electronic Art's online game "The Sims Online" and have implemented mob rule. Walking into houses and demanding money for virtual protection seems to be the primary offense but I'm with the publicity they're getting from all the sites reporting this they'll create more interesting and/or unique ways to wreak havoc. Check back on Monday or Tuesday and we should have an interview with Maxis containing an official response to this.

I wonder if they have a Godfather who heads the family???
#2 - Maelstrom - 06/08/03 @ 01:44 AM EST
Oh of course. For your family, it would be Don Vega. Remember, no one asks you about your business.
#3 - BorderCollie - 06/08/03 @ 01:45 AM EST
Those people will go to jail for crimes if they're not careful :(
#4 - Maelstrom - 06/08/03 @ 01:49 AM EST
Maybe. But remember: never squeal on your friends and always keep your mouth shut. If you get pinched, so be it. I think that this online mafia crime syndicate is pretty good. Wonder if they are all Italians. Now all we need is a group of 'Untouchables' led by a virtual Elliot Ness to take down these troublemakers.

*beats Maelstrom to near-death with many baseball bats, then buries him alive in a ditch in the middle of a secluded cornfield..*

Bug alert. Refreshing this page after posting a comment will repost the same comment over and over and over and over again.
#8 - Bulldog - 06/08/03 @ 02:19 AM EST
Not a bug.
You would be hard pressed to find a comment system that doesn't do that.

Unless I'm missing something.

#15 - ReV VAdAUL - 06/08/03 @ 01:07 PM EST
Apparently quite a lot of people who play the sims online actually want organised crime in the game, now that'd be cool... a mix between GTA and The Sims and Kingpin now that'd be ace.

#16 - Maelstrom - 06/08/03 @ 02:55 PM EST
Wow...if organized crime is really in the game...count me in. :D

#17 - undetermined_rabbit - 06/08/03 @ 03:57 PM EST
There just trying to find new ways of making the game better. I don't buy it.

#18 - TrekMaster - 06/08/03 @ 04:36 PM EST
At a monthly Flat fee to play the game, It's not enough to tempt me. Even if Organised Crime is in it. Someone getting the sims and playing it says to me that their life is so uninteresting, they seek an artificial one.

#19 - GODKILLER - 06/08/03 @ 05:48 PM EST
I agree. Why should you pay at all? I mean, you've already bought the damn thing why should you pay more?
#20 - Anon@ - 06/08/03 @ 07:09 PM EST
I don't know....maybe to fund the servers the the game is played on?

#21 - Vega - 06/08/03 @ 07:16 PM EST
I wouldnt have such a problem with these pay-to-play games if they didnt have the $50 initial cost. That's a real turn off to pay that and then have to turn around and pay like $12 a month.

I would do one or the other, but not both.

That actually sounds really amusing, and quite smart of the people who started it. But quite annoying for the people playing!
