Tom Clancy (HOT ITEM)

( READ ATTACHED PRESS RELEASE ) Arriving as the latest on the series in (relatively speaking) sometime now, Ubisoft today issued word announcing that Tom Clancys Splinter Cell 4 (working title), will fall under the name of Tom Clancys Splinter Cell Double Agent. In development across the Xbox 360, Xbox, PlayStation 2, GameCube, PlayStation 2 and PC platforms, Tom Clancys Splinter Cell Double Agent once again puts players in the role of Sam Fisher, this time as he infiltrates a terrorists group, attempting to destroy it from within before a devastating terrorist attack occurs.
Veteran agent Sam Fisher is back. But he's never faced an enemy like this before. To stop a devastating terrorist attack, he must infiltrate a vicious terrorist group and destroy it from within. For the first time ever, experience the relentless tension and gut-wrenching dilemmas of life as a double agent. As you infiltrate a terrorist organization in its American headquarters, you must carefully weigh the consequences of your actions. Kill too many criminals and you'll blow your cover. Hesitate too long and millions will die. Do whatever it takes to complete your mission, but get out alive.
Tom Clancys Splinter Cell Double Agent will have players trying to accomplish tasks for both NSA and the terrorist group at the same time, feature missions spanning the globe, and returning multiplayer modes across each platform. Tom Clancys Splinter Cell Double Agent will ship during Spring 2006.

These games have gotten better each time, the name sucks but I'm still excited. Should look amazing on the 360.

Shame there's no PS3 version.

"Shame there's no PS3 version."

Is that surprising bearing in mind that there's on PS3 available at the moment?

Tongue in cheek.

This story sounds awesome actually..

Splinter Cell is top notch, but I don't like it. Too much trial and error for my tastes. I keep tripping alarms or getting spotted, the having to reload from the last checkpoint.

It isn't Metal Gear. Take it slow, use your equipment and don't feel rushed unless you're being chased. This is the ultimate sneaking game, except for Tenchu.

It's possible to make it all the way through levels in chaos theory without having to use trial and error at all. That's why i like SC actually, because if you use all the equipment and abilities at your disposal, and make full use of the environment, you're able to pull off some awesome things.

The viral marketing for this game was great, the story sounds awesome.

Meh, from what I played of the first two games, most of the time it felt like you kept being presented with problems where you had to replay them over and over trying to find the "correct" path through it. Sneak to the box, wait for the guard to move, roll past the hallway, wait for the guard to leave, flip the lightswitch, leave the room. It's playing those bits over and over that upset me, ESPECIALLY when you can't trigger a single alarm.

I made it to the 2nd or 3rd level of Pandora Tomorrow where you are on the moving train. Got stuck trying to sneak into the passenger area. I replayed the same 5 minute sequence for about an hour before I gave up. Maybe I just don't have the patience for stealth games.

Agreed Megahurtz... but it's still a fun series :)
#11 - Vega - 12/14/05 @ 09:43 PM EST
I agree #6, I remember a couple years back I bought the first splinter cell, got about halfway through the game before uninstalling it. Never touched it since.

I can occasionally get into a really well done stealth game.. but I do get frustrated if it's all trial and error.
#13 - Austin316 - 12/14/05 @ 10:51 PM EST
I feel the same way ... played the first SC and agree with you totally. Guess we just aren't leet enough to figure it out the first time through.

I like to play games that benefit from being "Stealthy" and not just running into a situation blindly.. which is most FPS games in general.
#15 - Blindside - 12/15/05 @ 01:52 AM EST
You get to try Chaos Theory at all Megahurtz? The previous two games paled in comparison. Especially because they really refined the gameplay in regards to the 'trial and error' feel that people had.
#16 - LostToys - 12/15/05 @ 02:01 AM EST
and they made it freaking easy (see: instant kill stabs).
#17 - Blindside - 12/15/05 @ 02:25 AM EST
Yeah the ability to grab and stab, or just lunge at them with the knife if they were about to cause trouble, made for a much easier experience. Just as long as you hid the bodies.

I thought the first Splinter Cell had loathsome gameplay. But I just bought Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory for the PC, as so many players reckon it's the first major step forward over the original. (Haven't got around to installing it yet, let alone playing it.)
#19 - Megahurtz - 12/15/05 @ 10:42 AM EST
No, I never even rented Chaos Theory, mainly because of my experiences with SC and Pandora Tomorrow. I figured it would just be more of the same. I'll have to remember to give it a rent some time if they toned that down.
#20 - Nova Cat - 12/15/05 @ 10:44 AM EST
Never could get Chaos Theory to work on my pc. :(
#21 - nemarsde - 12/15/05 @ 12:16 PM EST
Scheizer! Hope I don't have the same problem!
#22 - Nova Cat - 12/19/05 @ 02:43 AM EST
Hopefuly not mate. It kept crashing on me every few minutes.
#23 - nemarsde - 01/26/06 @ 01:56 PM EST
I've been having great fun with Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, and in several weeks (since Christmas) of on-off gameplay it's only crashed 4 times.

The single player campaign hasn't really grabbed me, although I do enjoy using some of the equipment. Co-op mode is where the action is, although the maps are half and half; half are very poor, half are very good. The good maps will keep you coming back for another stab at the perfect mission though.

You also don't get to use all the equipment in co-op mode, having a very limited selection unfortunately.

Haven't touched on the versus game modes yet.
